Bob's Lego Quest: The Beginning!
ODDS AND ENDS

When I was a youth, I was all in on Lego. It was probably the type of toy my older brother and I played with the most, and was always a highlight of every Christmas, getting some new Lego box to build. But I got older and moved away, and my Mom (rightly) gave my Legos to a younger cousin who would enjoy them.
I’m grown now, and have the Kiddo in my life now, and they absolutely LOVE Lego. They have built most of the Harry Potter sets, and are currently building everything flower related they can get their hands on. It’s been awesome to watch, for sure.
At some point over this holiday season I got bit by the bug again. I don’t know how, and I’m not sure what specifically got me back interested. Maybe it was admiring my friends Lego bonsai tree for the past year. Or seeing the Tales Of A Space Age mosaic box. I’m not sure what it was, but all of a sudden I wanted to dip my toes back into the hobby. Will it last? Who knows. But I thought I would document it on here for you folks. It’ll be all over my social media in the future too I think, #bobslegoquest lets say.
So as I (re)start my adventure with Lego, I am planning to be a little more intentional with it. My space is very limited, and let's be honest, it can be really hard to justify the expense. So as I think about what I want to do here are my rough plans:
Undersea Cthulhuian Diorama. I love the deep ocean. It’s terrifying and amazing, and has long fascinated me. I have long loved ocean type scenes, with underwater bases and all that jazz. So my long term bigger project will be an underwater base/archaeological dig with eldritch horrors in it.
Recreating scenes from my books. I want take some of my favorite scenes from my books, and make them in Lego. I will probably just make them once, take a bunch of pictures, then tear them down to build the next one. But I think this will be a lot of fun. Howard Marsh needs to be a Lego mini.
Free building. There is a special sort of magic that comes from just having a pile of blocks in front of you. I want to carve out time to just sit and build. I really enjoy minimalist type builds, where someone takes a very few pieces to represent something. So I would like to try my hand at building some small things like that. Things I can whip up, and then tear down quickly or just chuck in a small box for later.
Minimalist mosaics. I fucking love that “Tales of a space age’ box, and I want to make my own mosaics in that style. What topic? Who knows. But I want to give it a try and see what I can do. As a bonus, they won’t take up much space and hopefully will look good enough to display.
Representations of my travels. I want to make a small build that I can display, to remind me of all my major trips I have taken. I plan to start with my most recent (my honeymoon to Portugal and Spain), and then work backwards.
So yeah! I think this will be a fun adventure, and I hope you enjoy reading about it!
