Collaborations

Like the world of Jubal County, and want to create content in that space?
I'm here for it.

To kind of give you the big picture, my long term goal is to essentially have a small empire of deep southern fantasy/spooky media (largely centered around my main body of work The Jubal County Saga). Stuff that celebrates or highlights certain aspects of southern culture and folklore, while removing a lot of the toxic 'south will rise again' cliche that is so often associated with that. Sweet tea, not rebel flags as it were. My dream is that wherever people are consuming media, I want to be in those spaces in some way. Along the way I want to work with and uplift other folks working in this space. So be it games, music, art, what have you, I want to be working and creating with like minded folks.

That said, I have a billion and a half ideas, so I am not as much looking for ideas, as looking for folks who have ideas/abilities that might want to tie what they are already working on into what I have going on, and vice versa. I have also been burned about a billion times by folks who say they want to DO A THING, but when time comes to actually do...well...anything at all really, they seem to vanish. So I want to work with folks who are already doing a thing, and then setting up a partnership that is beneficial to us both.

So to clarify I am looking to either:
  • Find folks who would like to create in Jubal County/Jubal County adjacent spaces. Be that in designing a fun zine, writing a song, painting a picture, what have you. In this case we would talk, figure out in specific what that might look like on a case by case basis, draw up a little contract to CYA, and then make some magic (and ideally a little money for each of us).

  • Find folks creating in a similar space such that fans of my stuff would appeal to what they are working on, and vice versa. Maybe after talking we figure out that Jubal County is a poor fit for whatever you are working on, but if you are working in this sort of space, I want to help grow you and promote you regardless. And you never know what connections could lead to something rad in the future.

I will give you two specific instances of how this has occurred in the recent past:
  • An artist, Amy Brewer-Davenport, got commissioned by a fan of mine to make a painting of the possum Familiar in my book series (Horace) eating some ice cream (he lives in a Dairy Queen dumpster). She ended up making prints of that. We actually do a fair number of conventions, and if folks come to my booth and mention possums, I send them to her booth. I even keep a copy of the print in my booth to show them. If they go to her booth and comment/buy that print, she sends them to my booth. I also made a promo image that we share around on occasion on our socials (I put it down at the bottom). She makes money, I make money, everyone walks away happy.

  • I had a legit, real deal screenwriter reach out and ask to write a pilot based on my series. We talked and established terms, and she is now shopping it around Hollywood to production companies. I have also set her up with some interview type stuff with podcasts/shows I know.

In the near(ish) future I have concrete plans to start publishing short story/novella anthologies set in this world/space as well, dealing with authors I have made strong friendships/connections with. Those will be published through my press, Bearded Bard Inkworks, as will a series of games set in this world (the first is already out in fact). I also am in the (super) early planning stages for some sort of graphic novel adaptation.

Pitch Deck

I have made a rough pitch deck that gives the overall view of what currently exists within the Jubal County universe, what is planned, and the types of media I am looking to partner with. You can download a copy of it here:
