Event Recap: Prattville Page Fest 2026

TRANSPARENCYEVENT RECAP

So I did the first ever Prattville Page Festival. Lort, it was a great event. I mean really. So let's dive in.

The Prattville Silent Book Club hosted this event. They are a really amazing book club based in, you guessed it, Prattville. You may recall I went and spoke to them one time. The event itself took place in the event space of a local restaurant, Uncle Mick's Cajun Cafe.

This was a simple event: ten authors, ten tables, one room, no panels, shit tons of book buyers. I was asked by the show runner if I had any issues. I told him my only issue was there were so many people that at times folks couldn't get to my booth for all the people at my booth. What an amazing problem to have.

It may be the most I have made per hour to date. Four hours, 920 bucks.

Why can't they all be like this?

I have a few small thoughts.

  • This is probably the best profit to expense of any event I will ever do, considering it was likely the event closest to my house I've done I think.

  • I met a lot of authors I didn't know already, which was rad.

It' ain't none.

I already said the top line number, 920 bucks in four hours. But let's dive into the specifics.

Quick note: related to my last blog post where I talk about my shift in focus, I am not getting as granular on these, in that I am no longer going to break out my zines into a separate category. I didn't even bring zines to this event, and will be very selective on which ones I do from here on out.

What went well? I sold a bunch of omnibus editions, including 4 folks who bought the two omnibus set. I only had a 4 foot table, so I didn't bring zines, I just kept it focused on what mattered: books.

Because I was on my 4 ft table, I was able to extend the legs, making the table about a foot higher than everyone elses. I don't know how much it helped, but it did get my books closer to eye level, and coupled with bringing my own black tablecloth, I certainly stood out in the room.
