Event Recap: Two Small Local Events
TRANSPARENCYEVENT RECAP

Over the past week or so I have taken part in a couple of local events. The first was an author event at the Dothan Library (where I sold books) and then an evening event at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (where I did not sell books)
Dothan Library Author Event
So this was neat in that one of the very first events I ever did as an author, way back in July of 2019, was this event. It was the first year the event was held, and it has been held pretty much every non-covid year since I believe. However up until this year I always had a conflict. So this was my first year back!
If you look below, I have put the photo of my booth from that first event, then my current set up. I think it's neat to see how I have grown over the years. That first event I didn't have any novels for sale, all I had was podcast merch and anthologies that I had short stories in. So yeah...just a little bit different haha!
Anywho, sadly this event conflicted with the opening Saturday of the Peanut Festival, which is pretty much the biggest even that occurs in southeast Alabama each year. So attendance was pretty sparse. I sold 45 bucks worth, but while the sales were not what one might hope for, it was still a great event. The library had a green room with snacks for us, and there were lots of great authors to meet and hang out with.
Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts 'In the Arts Teen Career Night'
This is my third year taking part in this event. Essentially they are nights where teens interested in careers in the arts can come out and speak to folks who are making money as creatives. I have been the resident author for the event so far, and I am hopeful they keep having me back! Because I really enjoy doing this sort of stuff. It's a chance for me to pay back all the support I have received over the years, and I'll take all those chances I can.

I have a few small thoughts.
Every event needs a green room authors with rainbow cookies. Just saying.
I'm the inverse of Matthew McConaughey. "You know what terrifies me about high school kids? I keep getting older while they stay the same age." Fuck I'm getting old.
I should have dropped a couple of 6/7 and sigma references so I sounded hip to the youths.

It aint none.

Like I said, the one event I could sell at, attendance was boned by the Peanut Festival. These things happen though.
