Monthly Recap: April 2025

TRANSPARENCYMONTHLY RECAP

4/30/20254 min read

Alright, alright, alright! The month is over, so lets dive on in! On the whole, the month started strong, and ended strong. But I got covid right in the middle, and I won't like, it fucked me aaaaaallllll up. So I didn't get as much done as I wanted.

What I Did In March!

I got a lot done! Here is a list:

  • Recorded two episodes of Page Numbers.

  • Guested on First Time with Juliet Rose on the GoIndieNow platform.

  • I spoke to one of Professor Tyra Burton's marketing classes. I do this about once a semester, and it's always a great time.

  • Filed my business and non-profit taxes

  • I ordered new bags (thanks to Ben Meeks) and copying his style I ordered a new booth chair.

  • Sent my newsletter out, and made a template for it.

  • Ordered 1600 dollars in book inventory.

  • Did my book inventory (sitting on 302 as of this writing).

  • I wrote about 7k words. Covid is a punk.

  • I reviewed all my audio files for book 3 of my series. I have one thing I need to get fixed, then it's good to go.

What I Have Planned For May!

Here's what I am thinking I will do:

  • I will be guesting on A Conversation and a Cocktail on the 12th, with the ever amazing Venessa Giunta. I will also be guesting on Be Awesome Together on the 7th with Tyra Burton and Charles McFall.

  • My only in person event is going to be ConCarolinas at the very tale end of the month. It actually spills over into June.

  • I will be speaking on Organic Marketing to author Michelle Tompkins TIG group.

  • Hopefully I will finish building my new Tales by Bob website over on Hostinger. The blog move is going to be the hard part.

  • I am hoping to get all my print books listed on ingramspark so I can go wide. Didn't get this done in April, because fuck me.

  • I am hoping to get at least 10k more words done on Crimson Horror 3. The dream is 20k, but if I hit 10k as busy as I am, I'll take that with a smile.

  • I will publish audiobook 3 in my series.

Sales!

I had two events this month, Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo, and a small library event. They totaled up to over 1,800 bucks, which will make any month a good one I reckon.

The good: In person sales were great. And patreon is still gradually ticking up. I think next month I will break 50 bucks a month on there!

The not good: I mean...there wasn't anything like, bad. But Amazon shirts were noticeably down. And most of the other channels were their usual small dribs and drabs. Which isn't bad. That's the point, a bunch of small channels building to a much larger one. But I of course could always wish for better.

Socials!

I am just copy pasting from last month, because it's identical this month basically:

"Last month I talked about how I was thinking about cutting some social media platforms. I am getting closer to that stage I think, and I can tell you Bluesky and Threads are probably about to go the way of the dodo. My mental Marie Kondo asked me if they spark joy, and they certainly do not. I just don't have the bandwidth, nor interest, in keeping them going. I think my plan is sometime in March to basically just delete all posts there and have one pinned 'hey, I'm not actually here, I just don't want my name stolen' type post." - Bob, in February.

This is still the case. I just keep forgetting to 'shut them down.'

"I am also considering doing something similar to my facebook group. I just simply do not get any sort of real return there. Like, at all. Not that I can see. I had to turn off the ability for folks to make posts because porn bots kept posting porn in there, or scams. And basically only I can post there...then what's the point?" - Bob, in February.

This is still the case. I still haven't decided.

My email list slightly ticked up, which made me happy. It shows my newsletter signup pop up is working. The math is still wonky there, and I still haven't figured it out, but fuck it, it's growing.

So yeah, pretty normal month: lots of angst, decent growth.
