Monthly Recap: July 2024

TRANSPARENCYMONTHLY RECAP

7/31/20242 min read

Alrighty, July is behind us, so it's time for my monthly recap post! As always, I'm gonna be diving into the numbers behind my sales and socials!

Let's start with sales! This was a pretty good month! It would have been a thousand dollar month if I wasn't doing a better job of tracking my fixed expenses, but as it were I only missed by 4 bucks. I'll take it, happily! This month was largely buoyed by my sales at Fanboy Knoxville. But I had a nice little bump in online book sales over last month, I suspect largely due to a really nice news article that came out about me in the local paper. And shirts came roaring back in a big way, not sure what that's about, but I'm happy with it! I am also excited that my Patreon is still growing. I am up to 12 paid patrons, and I just had two folks sign up for the seven day free trial. So assuming they convert, I will be up to 14! Feel free to go give it a gander HERE (currently I am posting an unedited chapter a week of my forthcoming horror novel, and I have tons of older stuff from short stories to essays from the mind of Howard Marsh).

The only downside is that I sold nothing on itch or drivethrurpg. But 40 bucks of my in person sales were rpg zines, which is more than I would have sold in even a big month on those sites combined. I'm in a weird transitional mode, where I am shifting stuff around, and putting out a better product, and splitting my efforts between Bearded Bard Inkworks and my older Tales by Bob rpgs accounts. So I suspect that until I get that fully squared away (which may take a year or two), I don't expect to make a lot in those online spaces.

On the social media front, things are moving right along as per the norm. The biggest thing is the discord channel had it's biggest month of growth, adding 8 members. I am doing a rebrand there, it's now the Southern Fantasy and Horror discord. As part of that, there are now four 'host' authors in there, myself as well as Ben Meeks, Willa Blackmore, and Alexander Nader. We all write southern urban fantasy, and three of us also write southern horror. So come hang out with us, if you are fans of any of that/us.

Ok, enough chit-chat, let's hit the numbers.
